Rooms for rent in Malta

Renting a room is the most affordable way to live in Malta, and the default first home for students, new arrivals, and anyone starting a job on the island. Most rooms come inside shared apartments — you get a private bedroom and share the kitchen, bathroom, and living space with one to three flatmates.

Expect to pay roughly €400–€700 per month for a private room. Sliema and St Julian's sit at the top of that range — often €500–€800 — because of the seafront location and nightlife. Gzira and Msida are the flatshare heartland, popular with University of Malta students and young professionals, typically €450–€600. Bugibba, Qawra and St Paul's Bay in the north run cheaper, often €350–€500, in exchange for a longer commute to the central business areas.

Always check whether bills are included. Some landlords advertise rent with utilities built in; others add electricity, water, and internet on top, which usually means another €50–€100 per month depending on the season — air conditioning in summer is the big variable. Deposits are normally one month's rent, and most room lets run month-to-month or on six-month agreements rather than full-year contracts.
